Definitions#
Ballistic is owned by Solvit Solutions, a company managed and owned by Glenn Viroux, based in Belgium (referred to as "the Company", "We", "Us" or "Our"). As a customer of this Company, you're a "User" or "You" according to this policy. The application and services that are offered by Us are referred to as "Ballistic", "App", "Application", "Website" or "Service".
How does Ballistic collect my data?#
Notes and code snippets#
When you write notes or code snippets, add tags, summaries, etc. on any of the Ballistic client apps, Ballistic stores the data in the Ballistic servers. All data is associated to your personal account.
Before actually storing the data on the server, Ballistic encrypts your data so that other people including the server administrators cannot see the content of the data. The data is stored on the servers to provide data synchronization across your devices.
Usage of Ballistic Service#
When you use any of the Ballistic services, the App stores data about how you use the Service. This includes:
- A random, unique identifier
- Network request data, such as the date and time, your IP address and the URL
- Some of the actions you took, like creating or deleting a note
- The web browser you are using and its version
- The website that referred you to the Service
- Logs of the backend server regarding your Application usage
Ballistic uses this data to detect any problems with the provision of the different services. More specifically, it is used to:
- Debug and further develop the Ballistic application
- Diagnose and solve technical errors
- Keep the Services working quickly and reliably
- Collect statistics on feature usage and popularity
- Improve search functionality on the Service
- Continuously improve the overall user experience
Ballistic will routinely delete server log entries every 6 months. Any other logged information is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed for debugging purposes.
Account Information#
To use any of the provided Services, you need to create a Ballistic account. This is needed to associate your notes and code snippets to your unique account, so you and only you can see all your notes when you log in using your credentials. Ballistic provides several options to create an account:
Using Google Authentication
Ballistic offers you the option to authenticate yourself using your Google account. By doing so, you give Ballistic access to your Google username, email and image. This data is stored on the Ballistic server so you can log in at a later stage using the same credentials.
Using GitHub Authentication
Ballistic offers you the option to authenticate yourself using your GitHub account. By doing so, you give Ballistic access to your GitHub username, email and image. This data is stored on the Ballistic server so you can log in at a later stage using the same credentials.
Using your personal email
Ballistic offers you the option to authenticate yourself using your personal email. By doing so, you provide a username and email. Ballistic uses this email to send you a confirmation email, so you can sign up for a Ballistic account. This data is stored on the Ballistic server so you can log in at a later stage using the same credentials.
Through all authentication options, your email is saved on the Ballistic servers. Ballistic uses your email to:
- Confirm if your email address is correct to sign you up
- Notify you if your free trial expires in three days
- Notify you if your free trial has expired
- Notify you if a payment has failed
- Notify you if your account has been deactivated in case of a payment failure
- Notify you about annual subscription renewal three days before
- Contact you in special circumstances related to your Ballistic account
- Contact you in case technical support was requested
- Contact you to answer any legal requests

When You delete your Ballistic account, all data related to that account is deleted from the Ballistic servers.
Shared note data#
When you export a note through any of the export features, such as PDF, markdown or with a public link, Ballistic decrypts the content of the note or code snippet and makes the content of the note publicly available through the export feature you selected.
Payment card data#
To continue using Ballistic after your free trial has expired, Ballistic requires your payment card data. Ballistic itself does not collect or store enough information to charge your card itself. Rather, Stripe collects that data on Ballistic's behalf, and gives Ballistic security tokens that allow Ballistic to create charges and subscriptions. Stripe meets the highest level of PCI compliance (Level 1). See more on their Security page.
Ballistic only uses your payment card data to charge for usage of the Ballistic services. Ballistic only uses your payment card data as long as you use the paid Service.
Ballistic collects your billing address in order to know whether you're a Belgian tax resident or not. On Belgium, there is a consumption tax for national citizens, but for people living outside of Belgium are exempted from this tax. This is required by the national tax agency in Belgium.
User correspondence#
Ballistic stores data written by you when you send Ballistic a support request, legal complaint, privacy inquiries and business inquiries. This data usually includes your name, email address and the actual content of the inquiry. Ballistic uses this data to:
- Respond to your inquiry
